Lester Young Funeral

The funeral took place at the universal Chapel on the corner of 52nd Street and Lexington Avenue on March 19th.
Many people turned up to pay Lester their last respects, including Henry 'Red' Allen, Rudi Blesh, Bill Coss, Sonny Greer, Leonard Feather, John Hammond, George Hoefer, Billie Holiday, Jo Jones, Alan Morris, Timmie Rosenkrantz, Jimmy Rushing,
Tony Scott, and Billy Taylor. Count Basie's wife, Catherine, came on behalf of the band, since none of them could be present, as they were on tour in California. As for the family, Lee (Young) came from Los Angeles, together with their mother, Lizetta. Beverly arrived frim Minneapolis, and Mary brought Lester, Jr. with her.
